Ms. Smead’s Quote

Ms. Smead, like many teachers, picked more than one quote. The one this article was originally was supposed to be about was from Zig Ziglar. It went, “if you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you.” That quote is also in the main foyer when you walk in. However, that quote doesn’t have the personal meaning to her as the one below.

You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice.

Bob Marley

Bob Marley’s life started out hard as though his dad sent his family money, he rarely ever visited. When Marley was 10, his father died of a heart attack. When he was 12 he moved within Jamaica. However, he didn’t let that stop him and he went on to have a successful music career, and didn’t let his hardship stop him.

Ms. Smead had her own stories of hardship. When she was in her thirties, she was widowed with her young children. She even beat cancer, twice. Even one of these things would make some people feel like giving up, but she pushed forward. She said, ” you think at the time you’re not going to make it through, but you take it one day at a time, and you rely on other people, and you do what you have to do each day, and you get through it.”

Some people believe that this kind of strength lies in certain people, but, as Ms. Smead says, “people think they’re gonna crumble, but somehow, you find the strength. I think anybody can find the strength.”
