Boys Swim Gets Season Underway

The boys swim team started their season strong in a battle vs Will North last Friday.

The boys varsity swim season started off strong with their first meet on Friday January 29, when they only started practicing ten days ago.  After the national anthem was played over a speaker, we started our first boys virtual meet. Due to the COVID restrictions, swim meets are now hosted virtual for spectators and the other team.

After the start, captain Jake Wilson started the boys swim season off strong in the 200-yard medley relay with Zach Boyle, August Colombo and Jonathan Goscinski following right behind. The boys finished with a time of 2:04.06.

At the meet, Coach Dan McCarthy added, “I think a lot of the boys are doing a great job this season. They are trying and trying to improve on times, and on events.” He also adds his thoughts on many swimmers being able to push through every event, even the hard ones. Captain Jake Wilson added, “2020 and 2021 have been very difficult. But we’ve got a good group of guys who are just happy to be back in the pool. We had our first meet against Will North, and for our first meet I think it went well. We’ve got a lot of work ahead of ourselves, but I know the guys are up to the task.”

In the 100-yard butterfly, Matthew Spence finished with a time of 1:11.23 and August Colombo swam with a time of 1:23.56. Both athletes are doing great and improving with every practice and every race. Next up, the 500-yard freestyle was swam by Adam Korte and Daniel Hayter. The 500-yard freestyle is not an easy race, so it’s great that these guys are both doing this race. Adam finished with a time of 7:19.68 and Daniel with a time 6:27.13. Next up, the 100-yard breaststroke being swam by Eli Crowther, Ryan Burke, Zackary Boyle, and Daniel Gutsu all did fantastically.

The relay team brought the first meet to a close. Swimming the 400-yard freestyle was Michel Hayter, Matthew Spence, Jake Wilson and Daniel Hayter finishing the meet strong.

Congratulations to the Boys Varsity Swim team for doing a great job at their meet. All of the athletes are very excited to continue their season, and they had an amazing start!
