School Highlight, Athletic Signings

Dayna Edholm

Being a two year captain of the Sweet Home volleyball team is certainly uncommon. Dayna Edholm has accomplished this through being an amazing teammate and leader. However, her accomplishments don't end there. She was an All Western New York Scholar Athlete, all ECIC Second Team and last season she was third team. Her passion for the sport began in sixth grade and her love for it grew since then.

Dayna's sister has also been involved with the sport making it a family activity now. The sport has also shaped her leadership skills. When competing against other teams she has learned many things. She says that, for example, it “...gives me a better understanding of different backgrounds and I can also find ways to relate to people. Once you step out of the court with someone you realize you have the same bond with the sport and it's unreal”. She believes Coach Martin has shaped her into the player she is today. She is going to Keuka College to play Division 3 Volleyball.

Dayna is excited to attend such a beautiful campus with amazing people.

Alyssa Woodford

Alyssa is a four-year swimmer for the girls swim team. After joining the team for fun in her freshman year, the sport grew to be more than just that.

Since then, Alyssa has earned many honors, including placing 3rd in the 100 backstroke at ECICs and 4th at State Qualifiers. Alyssa is a Scholar Athlete at Sweet Home, currently with a 95 average and a member of NHS. Alyssa is going to attend Nazareth College in Rochester for Biomedical Sciences as the school was “the perfect fit. Not only was it the perfect distance but it was the perfect team.” Alyssa went on to thank Sweet Home for all their love and support throughout her high school career and looks forward to swimming in college.

Yulisa Tosado-Munoz

Who said soccer Division 3 was ever easy? Yulisa, a senior in high school, had been playing soccer on a team for five years. However, in Colombia, she played pick up soccer. As a person, she has become responsible due to the discipline necessary to master the sport. She says, “it takes time to master a sport. I have to make sure to take advantage of time and keep my priorities straight.”

Yulisa appreciates all the coaches that have guided her through her journey. She thinks the athletic director is very supportive and encourages all athletes to contact colleges and put themselves out there.

Yulisa choose to attend Medaille college. She has done research on all the colleges she had in mind and realized Medaille would offer her the best Pre-Veterinary and Vet Tech programs. She will pursue the major she loves and the sport she is passionate about.

Yulisa is no ordinary athlete. She has been a ECIC Division Two Second Team All Star, which is huge. She has been acaptain for the Sweet Home Soccer team for the last two seasons, acting as a leader and friend to all her teammates.

Gavin Janas

A strong team leader and multi-talented athlete would be one way to describe Gavin. Throughout high school, Gavin played three other sports and participated in the Unified Sports program. However, he accomplished the most in lacrosse. A pivotal part of the lacrosse team, Gavin is heading to Medaille College to earn a degree in Adolescent Education / Students With Disabilities (Grades 7-12). “Medaille College gave me everything I wanted,” said Gavin. “The class sizes are very small and the athletics offer good teams and coaches.”

Gavin went on to express his thankfulness for the Sweet Home community and opportunities it provided.
