Trust the Process: Bills Season Recap

If there’s one thing everyone should take away from this season, it’s that you should trust the process.

The Buffalo Bills had an incredible season. Never would any of us have thought that we would get this far after so many years. Throughout the season, we definitely had our good games and bad games. Looking back, we had a 13-3 record.  We also made it to the championship playoff game: though we lost to the reigning Super Bowl champions, Kansas City.  That sounds like a pretty good season to me, compared to previous ones

I think the most important thing that fans and the team need to gain from this season is to trust the process. It’s a great saying, but if you actually believe it, it’s even better. We trusted the process for over twenty years. Every year saying the same thing, “this will be our year.” Some years got better, some got worse. Since we got our quarterback, Josh Allen, it was a fresh start.  Josh Allen was a brand new player and a great addition to the team.  We trusted him from day one. His rookie season, he did not get us to the playoffs. Nobody thought he was the right fit, or that he was any good. His second season was very different. We went to the playoffs and everyone completely turned around; because this was what Buffalo had been looking for. “We’re going to the Super Bowl!!” Well, that didn’t exactly happen. Losing to Houston last year was upsetting, but we weren’t quite ready for the Super Bowl.

Then, this year comes along. A 4-0 to start off the season, one Hail Mary away from twelve consecutive wins since the bye week. This was the team we have been waiting for. This is the team that we always knew the Buffalo Bills could be. Winning the first playoff game against the Colts was amazing.  Then the second one against the Ravens was even better.

Everyone had such high hopes that this team was going to win the whole Super Bowl. But, we aren’t ready yet. Heard that one before. Not yet, but soon. Maybe next year, maybe the following year. But we will get there. We have to put our faith into our team and trust that they will work much harder. This team got us this far, and we can only go up from here. They’ve experienced it all now. So, they have to build. Learn from their mistakes. Even though it’s devastating to lose the game that could have gotten us into the Super Bowl, there’s still more games. There’s still more years. We just have to trust the process.
