You may have heard about Glenridge FC through Instagram, like many others did, only to be asking yourself who are they? For starters, the team consists of 15 players all from Sweet Home, many of which played for the Varsity team. Due to US Soccer requirements, there must be an adult at least 18 years of age so the team is coached by Mr. Stauffiger, a father of one of the players.
The team is named Glenridge FC, because many of the players live in either the Glendale or Willow Ridge areas. The team is also nicknamed Buffalo’s Premier Soccer Team because, as stated by athlete Alex Stauffiger, “we [the team] simply believe we are unstoppable and underrated.
The 15 player team, which will be competing in the Sunday Night 7v7 league at Sportsplex against other travel teams, “was primarily formed during the off-season to practice for next years varsity season, and we’ve always been interested in doing something like this,” according to Alex. The team consists completely of juniors, many of whom wanted to compete together. The team’s main goal is to surprise their opponents and prepare for the 2019 Varsity soccer season, and bring home a state championship for Sweet Home.
