New York has just announced that they are refiling waivers with the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) to exempt students from the June 2021 Regents exams.

This means that if USDE grants the waivers, then all state assessments and 2021 Regents exams will be canceled.

If USDE does not grant the waivers, or does not respond, then New York will only administer Regents exams for Algebra 1, ELA*, Living Environment, and Earth Science.

As we have previously published, the state is exempting the Regents exam graduation requirements for those who are scheduled to graduate in June or August of 2021.

You can find the statement released by the New York State Education Department here.

You can find the full decision regarding amendments to education requirements here.

This is a developing story, follow The Panther Eye as we cover it in its entirety.

*The NYS ELA Regent exam is administered to students who are in their third year of high school ELA classes.
