There’s more to our masks

Than the ones on our face

If we take those down

What takes their place?

Some hide their heartbreak

Some hide their shame

Some hide their feelings

With a mask full of blame

Some wear a brave face

Some wear a scar

These masks make it easy

To hide who you are

Today is a day

I feel we should ask

Can we be ourselves

And take off our masks?

I don’t mean the ones

For COVID-19

But the ones that allow

Our true selves to be seen.

When all of this is over

A memory in the past,

Will you keep or get rid of

The last of your masks?
